  • The Coast of Chennai faced one of the worst environmental crises on January- February of 2017.
  • A major oil spill in Chennai took place on January 28, 2017, when the ship BW Maple (UK flag), an LPG tanker, ramped into petroleum tanker Dawn Kanchipuram (Indian flag) at 17kmph (nine knots), just two nautical miles off the Kamarajar Port at Ennore near Chennai.
  • The oil slick floating along the Chennai coast travelled 32km south and entered the Palavakkam beach on the East Coast Road. Nearly 70 tonnes of oil sludge accumulated on the Ennore shore at Ramakrishna Nagar Kuppam beach.

Objectives:

  • To arrest deteriorating coastal environment.
  • To protect sea life’s.
  • To protect the livelihood of fishermen.
  • To strengthen hands of government departments and Coast Guards

We, The Oli Organisation actively participated in Chennai Oil Spill cleanup Works. It was immense
work organised by Coast Guard along with Government of Tamil Nadu. There were varies departments
along with many NGO’s like us actively lent their hands with helps of number of Volunteers, successfully
removed Oils reached shore waters of north Chennai after battle of one week.
